Diamond certificates

 loose diamond bought at Diamondland is always accompanied by a Diamond High Council (HRD) certificate or the International Gemmological Institute (IGI). GIA certificates are not as commonly used in Europe as in the USA, but they can also be issued.

All of these certificates are internationally recognised. They provide all the necessary information about the diamond’s characteristics, proportions and the quality of its cut.

The HRD issues three kinds of certificates:

The Diamond High Council is the officially recognised representative of the Belgium diamond trade and industry. HRD headquarters are located in Antwerp, World Diamond Center.

  • The HRD diamond certificate guarantees the authenticity of the diamond. Only diamonds that come with this certificate are genuine. The certificate describes the quality of the diamond: shape, weight, clarity, fluorescence, colour, measurements proportions and finishing grade. These characteristics determine the value of the stone.
  • The HRD diamond identification report is issued for all stones less than 1.00 ct.
  • The HRD diamond colour certificate pays specific attention to the colour description, colour design and luminescence. All these factors determine the value of the diamond. It is important to determine whether the diamond’s colour is natural or not.

The IGI Diamond Report

The International Gemmological Institute is the oldest institute of its kind in Antwerp. It was founded in 1975 and since then it has opened houses in New York, Mumbai, Bangkok and Tokyo.

  • The IGI Diamond report guarantees the authenticity of the diamond and provides reliable information about its identity and grade, based on parameters of an internationally recognised system.
  • Every diamond is analysed by several skilled gemmologists who use high tech equipment. They give an accurate description of the stone’s characteristics and grade in plain language.
  • The grade of a diamond is based on the 4c’s: cut, clarity, carat and colour. These characteristics are discussed in the GIA Diamond Report.
